Hot Wire Anemometer Applications

Do you have Hot Wire Anemometer Applications requiring measurement of air velocity, temperature, & humidity?

Here are some hot wire anemometer applications and solutions.

Hot wire anemometer applications that require intelligent capabilities such as linking to a data acquisition instrument for real-time analysis, data logging and reporting that includes compelling graphs.

Hot Wire Anemometer Applications

Hot Wire Anemometers also known as hot wire flow sensors measure flow rate of air by sensing the amount of heat that is removed from the surface of an element using a single sensor or an array of sensors. A very common use within the automotive industry is to use a hot wire anemometer to monitor the air intake of an engine. with recent advancements like our grid-style hot wire anemometer sensor, automotive engineers now use hot wire anemometry to develop cabin comfort or climate control systems.

In the electronics industry, a small embedded hot wire anemometer sensor is used to measure airflow, temperature and humidity on components as small as computer chips and printed circuit boards all the way up to electronics enclosures, rack-mounted equipment and even the entire data center or computer room.

In the pharmaceutical and laboratory environment, a hot-wire anemometers is used to monitor airflow in bio-safety cabinets, chemical fume hoods, and laminar flow hoods. Doing so is a matter of safety and compliance with regulations designed to protect workers.

HVAC professionals use hot wire anemometers for a wide range of applications in many cases to detect changes in directionality and speed of airflow which are vital for testing the performance and safety of critical ventilation systems.

What is a Hot Wire Anemometer?

A Hot Wire Anemometer is an instrument for measuring velocity and direction of fluid (in this case air) by measuring heat loss of an electrically-heated wire placed in the air stream. When placed in an air stream the heat is transferred from wire to the air and the temperature of wire reduces. Resistance of the wire measures the flow rate of the air.

Hot wire anemometers for single or multi-point air velocity, humidity and air temperature sensing — with real-time data transferred through a user-friendly USB output to a robust software solution where data can quickly be analyzed.

  • Our air velocity sensors utilize dual-bead hot wire anemometry technology to achieve an accuracy of ±1% of FS or ±0.025m/s (5fpm)
  • Choose from a range of compact sensor heads for diverse air velocity measurement applications
  • Measure and log air velocity, air temperature and humidity with a complete multi-point instrumentation system
