Explained: The °C Point Calibrated Thermal Anemometer for Biosafety Cabinet Certification
The °C Point anemometer is designed to measure air velocity accurately, which is essential for the safety and certification of biosafety cabinets (BSCs). It is used to measure and monitor airflow velocities, ensuring a cabinet provides adequate protection and containment. You may set the °C Point for continuous sensor readings or single point, spot measurements.
How the °C Point is Used in Certification
Inflow Velocity: The °C Point is used to measure inflow velocity at the front opening of the cabinet, ensuring a sufficient inward airflow to prevent contaminants from escaping the BSC.
Downflow Velocity: The anemometer probe is used to measure downward airflow within the work area, ensuring a controlled, unidirectional flow of air to remove contaminants from the work zone. The certifier takes multiple readings at specific points within the cabinet and across the filter face to ensure a consistent and adequate airflow pattern.

The °C Point Anemometer is Convenient, Compliant, and Eliminates Downtime
°C Point measurement accuracy is high. Capable of ± 3% velocity accuracy, it meets NSF/ANSI 49 standards for measuring with a hot wire anemometer.
To measure flow velocity in accordance with the standards, the anemometer is easily mounted in a probe stand. The ¼-20 mounting hole also allows you to interface the sensor probe with readily available camera mounts and adapters.
The °C Point can take a single set of readings or continuously log data over time. Air velocity and temperature measurements are displayed on the built-in LCD screen in real time and conveniently transmitted to your mobile device via Bluetooth.
Capable of taking readings at the rate of 1/sec, the °C Point’s polling interval and the number of samples to use for averaging are user defined. In addition to the average, the minimum velocity reading and maximum velocity reading are available for grid measurement points.
°C Point sensor heads are designed to be interchangeable, which allows you to swap probes for different applications and sensor insertion depths. Since they can also be calibrated separately, you can eliminate any downtime associated with calibration by having a spare probe on hand.
The °C Point calibrated thermal anemometer is from the Degree Controls portfolio of products designed for certification professionals working to secure critical controlled environments. We’ll have one at the ready during the Annual CETA Conference, April 25-28, 2025. Please stop by Booth #33 to see it in person.
