Are you manufacturing seals or sealing solutions?

When manufacturing rubber products such as seals, O-rings, and gaskets, ventilation is used to remove fumes and debris from the air. To work safely, fume extraction systems need regular maintenance and a full-time airflow monitoring system.

Continuous Monitoring

Rooster Airflow monitoring system showing alarm state from Degree Controls

One rubber product supplier has implemented the Rooster Monitor200 airflow monitoring system to continuously track the exhaust airflow of their rubber molding press machines:

  • The Monitor200’s probe-style air velocity sensor is installed in a common exhaust branch shared by six rubber pressing stations.
  • Process engineering experts have determined the minimum amount of air that needs to be extracted to control noxious gases and the time it takes to shut down the manufacturing operation.
  • If there is a drop in flow, the airflow monitor alerts users which in turn initiates a process shutdown.

Alerts Workers to Backup Mode

A main fan failure in the production facility triggers the backup mode of operation which also drives a pause in the compression molding process. Although the rubber press stations still see normal airflow with the backup fan running, in backup mode, the exhaust air streams bypass the air filtration system. The building management system communicates the main fan failure to the Monitor200 over BACnet and then the airflow monitoring system initiates audible, visual, and relay signals to tell workers to begin the shutdown sequence.

As you work to upgrade your engineering controls, please don’t hesitate to contact Degree Controls with questions about our airflow sensing and monitoring products.  Enjoy the rest of your day.
