AdaptivCOOL Wins Energy Conservation Award in Japan

Demand-Based Data Center Cooling Solution Gains Prominent Recognition at the 2010 Green IT Awards

acool-logo-pngMilford, NH – November 9, 2010 - Degree Controls' partner in Japan, Yamatake Corporation, has won the Commerce and Information Policy Bureau Director-General Awards in the IT Energy Conservation Division at the 2010 Green IT Awards for selling AdaptivCOOL's Demand-Based Cooling, an environmental solution for data centers. AdaptivCOOL is a division of Degree Controls, which finalized a contract with Yamatake in 2009 to sell AdaptivCOOL's products. To solve the removal of heat in data centers, AdaptivCOOL optimizes airflow management by establishing and maintaining ideal temperatures. In addition to keeping equipment cool, installing AdaptivCOOL results in a 20% reduction in energy associated with air conditioning in a data center of 500 m2 (1640 feet). This reduction in energy consumption combined with efficiently maintaining server temperature without overcooling is the primary factor in  achieving this prestigious recognition.

AdaptivCOOL's solution is to visualize and analyze problems with heat via computational fluid dynamics before installing devices to control air flow in problem spots and subsequently verifying their effectiveness.

GreenITAwardThis method received high praise from Yamatake, "Many systems exist to find solutions to area-specific problems with cooling technology, but this system locates problems in the data center unit, working through a systemic process of identification, implementation, and verification, from complete understanding to solving the problems. We will work proactively to sell AdaptivCOOL's Demand-Based Cooling to data centers and server rooms across the country. We look forward to continuing the work to make IT energy environmental protection come through by continuing to develop and propose architectural energy conservation and carbon dioxide reduction strategies, based on our group's philosophy of human-centered automation."

The Green IT Awards are a system of official commendation sponsored by the Green IT Promotion Council. It recognizes machines, software, services, solutions, etc. which demonstrate outstanding effectiveness in energy conservation and proposals which utilize their potential. Founded in February of 2008 by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry through a partnership between universities, industries, and government offices, it was formed to promote concrete steps in advocating for the Green IT Initiative, which seeks to create companies where environmental stewardship and economic growth are compatible.
