Verizon Selects Degree Controls for New Thermal Program Aimed at Saving Energy
Monday, 23 November 2009 13:49
Degree Controls has been authorized by Verizon Communications to validate and certify network hardware for compliance with new power efficiency requirements according to Verizon's TMST (Thermal Modeling, Simulation & Test) Program.
Heat generated by computer chips and circuit boards consumes significant power and the subsequent cooling required consumes further power. Through design stage simulation and prototype testing, each focused on the thermal and airflow characteristics of the network gear, significant improved efficiency can be "designed in". Verizon's new program details simulation and test procedures as well as establishing a process for review of the results and approval of the equipment design, starting as of July, 2010.
Chuck Graff, Verizon Director of Corporate Network and Technology, notes "In the network venue, cutting down on the amount of cooling we have to do to optimize our equipment performance is a big target with big potential rewards."
Rajesh Nair, Chief Technology Officer for Degree Controls, spoke at the recent 15th annual Verizon NEBS Conference and said "We are pleased and honored to be participating in this new program." He went on to note that "Degree Controls specialized entirely in thermal and airflow technologies - so we've been ready for a program like this for years!"
Degree Controls, Inc. is a private New Hampshire firm engaged in solving thermal issues with highly engineered airflow in a wide variety of industries and applications, including telecom, medical, military, and data centers among others.
